History of Vimy Ridge

Vimy Ridge Chapter D.B.E. was the first chapter organized in the State of Washington and was originally named Julia W. Henshaw after Mrs. Henshaw a member of the I.O.D.E. (Imperial Order Daughters of Empire) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The Chapter was organized at the home of Mrs. Grange V. Holt in 1911 and among charter members were: Mrs. Holt, Mrs. P.D. Hughes, Mrs. A. R. Cunningham, (mother of Past National President, Mrs. Beline Yuille, Q.B.E.), Mrs. William MacKay and Mrs. Forrest Tucker and others.
Following the First World War in 1918, at the request of the National Council in New York, the name of the chapter was changed from "Julia W. Henshaw" to the historical name of "VIMY RIDGE" to conform with the new amendment to the By-Laws that all chapters have a historical name. (See chapter minutes as recorded in 1918).
At a Presidents Forum in 1935, there was a display of scrapbooks of the various clubs and '"Vimy Ridge" received special mention for their display at that time. Unfortunately that scrapbook and the earliest Recording Secretary's book have been lost.  In a later Scrapbook a newspaper account is given of the "Tea" celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Chapter.
